Malaya Signs Acquires Rudnick Electric Signs
Portland, OR September 21, 2021– While there are many forms of acquisitions for a business to contemplate, product-extension acquisitions may be the best, i.e., when two companies are selling different but related products in the same market. That is, if the respective workflows and corporate cultures can find harmony. Teresa M. On September 1, 2021, Malaya Signs officially acquired Rudnick Electric Signs. Together, they will now be a leading regional full-service signage company providing design, project management, engineering, fabrication, installation, and service/ maintenance of all electrical and non-electric signs. Key to the success of this new entity was defining leadership roles and keeping staff roles unchanged. Salesperson, designer, and project managers will remain in place, while Malaya Signs president, Stephen Boyter, will assume the role of president at both companies. Steven Rudnick, former owner of Rudnick Electric Signs, will stay on board as the lead installer. Boyter adds, “Going forward, we anticipate quicker timelines for manufacturing and installation.”
During a pandemic, when many small businesses are choosing to retrench, Boyter and Rudnick saw an opportunity to build on a solid foundation created by their synergistic operations. “During a pandemic, as supply chains are evaluated and a day of reckoning comes for a long-term strategy, it can be a very good time to acquire something like this,” adds Boyter.
With over 15,000 square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing in Oregon, Malaya Signs will be able to combine both companies’ decades of knowledge to create a true one stop sign shop. With this, it is possible for more than 90% of the products to be manufactured completely in house.
