Retrofit for Hospital Directories

(Lenexa, KS)–

“Previous to LobbyPOP, digital signage systems were rigged to require 250-page operations manual and/ or locked control to expensive service providers and subscriptions.” ~ Teresa M. Young, Founder, LobbyPOP®

GrandMark Signs, located in Lenexa, KS, is part of growing movement to restore sanity to the digital signage system installation and content management process. And these sign professionals are doing it in a grand way, with the help of an innovative service provider under the trade name, LobbyPOP® . When Liberty Hospital called Joe Tindall, owner of GrandMark signs, he could hear a note of caution in the hospital director’s voice.

“She had a healthy dose of skepticism when I told her that yes, we could give her control of all doctor names in her directories, from her desk or ours, with no subscriptions. And yes, the names would display the change within minutes, or at whatever interval she chose.” Her disbelief was expected under the circumstances: She had utilized another electronic directory provider a few years ago, and any updates required days and a heavy cost.

Teresa M. Young, Founder of LobbyPOP, a trade-only training, software and support provider for digital signage professionals, innovated something different for sign professionals. She explains, “Previous to LobbyPOP, digital signage systems were rigged to require 250-page operations manual and/ or locked control to expensive service providers and subscriptions.

New Life!

After new, bright 48” displays were installed.

This is where companies would carve out their revenues. But the truth is, sign professionals can deploy displays for their clients nationwide, at no or low cost for content management.”

Tindall and two team members, Alexandra Myers and Jake Slimp, reviewed the needs of the client, Liberty Hospital, carefully. The test was a single lobby directory, a 49” commercial display in portrait mode. A tiny media player with WIFI connectivity was installed using a five-page deployment document, wirelessly connecting to HTML5 directory content. One URL hosted by LobbyPOP was set into Kiosk mode. Reboot, done.

The result was stunning. After a series of power outages at the hospital, a modification was made to the content settings to allow the display to always reboot to its pre-set content. The hospital administrator could sit at her desk and make a change to a name.

GrandMark Signs can be 30 miles away and update graphics or any other element. Only authorized Admins have access, the display remains protected, and the updates appear automatically.

The next step was to tackle two custom metal cabinets that housed old, thick, dim displays.

The next step was to tackle two custom metal cabinets that housed old, thick, dim displays. The issues that needed to be answered included:
• What size display would fit not only the interior cavity, but also permit the display area to fit the opening of the frame.
• The depth of the old display meant the old wall mount was very low profile. New displays are thin, and so a specialty mount would have to be sourced, allowing the display to be extended to the face of the cabinet.
• It was important that all three directories, the original and the two new physician directories, update at the same time, ie, from one content source.

Needs Analysis

A few hours of research by the team at LobbyPOP, some more conversations with the GrandMark professionals, and two 48” commercial displays plus two special wall mounts were matched up to perfect the displays. Professional installation was accomplished by Myers and Slimp. In the end, it was the contrast between old and new, dim and bright, slow updates vs. click of the mouse responses which gave Liberty Hospital exactly what every healthcare environment should have: Less stress.

GrandMark Signs is proof positive that the finest displays can be deployed, and content management controlled better, by digital sign professionals.
