HISTORY

• 1985 - Teresa M. Young opens one of the first computer-based sign shops in the US.

  This new-style sign shop did not hand-paint – never before had something like this been seen. It made the news – including the Wall Street Journal!
• 1989 - Sign Biz trademark logo registered Washington, DC

  ``Sign Biz`` becomes a federally registered trademark.
• 1991 - Young becomes President and CEO of Sign Biz, Inc.

  After successfully selling her sign business to an investor out of Arizona, Teresa Young purchased the Sign Biz trademark and continued to grow the original chain of five shops.
• 1992 - Sign Biz, Inc. introduces Mimaki in United States

  The first US Mimaki distributorship was established by Sign Biz Inc. Fumiya Fukushima and Hiroaki Kinoshita worked with Young and Vice President, Paul Strauch, to bring this product line to the US.
• 1993 - Media hails Sign Biz, Inc. as ``Fastest Growing National Chain``

  Appearing <em>daily </em>in the news, from USA Today to Entrepreneur Magazine, the Sign Biz Network was named fastest growing sign chain.
• 1994 - Sign Biz hosts first ever sign industry symposium on digital print

  Prior to 1994, computer-aided sign shops produced signs with vinyl films, cut by computer-driven plotters. Sign Biz was the first national sign organization to see opportunity, not threat, in <em>digital print</em>. After this symposium in August of ’94, in Long Beach, CA, the first digital print units were acquired by a Sign Biz member in Chicago, IL. The rest is history…
• 1996 - Young Named Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Semi Finalist

  Young received recognition as a Semi-Finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, sponsored by Ernst &amp; Young LLP, USA Today, and NASDAQ, for her work at Sign Biz, Inc.
• 1998 - HP, Encad, and Scanvec/Amiable all recognize Sign Biz, Inc. as a Premier Value Added Reseller
• 2000 - The Sign Biz Offices and Training Center move to Dana Point

  Expanded facility and amenities allow for additional staff and trainers.
• 2002 - Young elected to ISA Board of Directors

  Active role in the International Sign Association (ISA) since the early 90’s, Young represented the Digital Sign and Graphics division of ISA for 5 years before being elected to the Board of Directors.
• 2005 - Sign Biz researches Dynamic Sign technologies

  New division formed at Sign Biz, Inc., trademarked “LobbyPOP” for full service dynamic digital sign products and services. In full swing by ’06.
• 2006 - ISA Elects Teresa M. Young to Executive Committee

  Young is unanimously approved to sit on the Executive Committee commencing in January 2006. Her term marked the first time in ISA’s 60-year-history that a woman sat on the Executive Committee.
• 2006 - Sign Biz, Inc. becomes a certified Microsoft Partner.

  Sign Biz, Inc. becomes a certified Microsoft Partner.
• 2007 - Teresa M. Young Elected First Chairwoman of ISA

  This marks the first time a woman has held this role in the 63-year hisotry of the International Sign Association, founded in 1944.
• 2008 - Flag flown over nation's capital in honor of Young

  John Campbell, Member of Congress, and Stephen T. • 2009 - Young Accepts Board Seat for California Sign Association

  Representing the Digital Sign Segment, CSA Votes to Approve.
• 2009 - International Supplier/Distributor Conference selects Young for Keynote

  “Right Brain“ thinking in a Left Brain World“ was the luncheon keynote delivered by Young. This keynote proved to be the top-rated session of this year’s event.
• 2010 - Sign Biz debuts new full-featured website.

  Complete site makeover enhances Member locator service for sign buyers.
• 2010 - Sign Biz launches sign industry sustainable practices website.

  Sign Biz established the first website resource center for the eco-minded sign industry shops, www.ecosignage.org, which was featured in Signs of the Times magazine in the July, 2010 issue. They wrote, “This website was created by several heavy hitters in the sign industry and environmental movement. The site includes list, research, resources, and forums aimed specifically at the sign industry.”
• 2010 - (Dec.) Sign Biz Network Donates $25,000 to Fort Hood Survivor

  With Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Network Members contributed to a new home for Patrick Zieglar and his new bride. Teresa M. • 2011 - Accepts 4th Year as Chair for ISA's Environmental Efforts

  Elected to serve as Chairwoman of the Environmental Subcommittee of the International Sign Association in 2008, Young continues in that role.
• 2011 (Dec) - Four Key Sign Biz Executives are Certified for Dynamic Signs
